Summary

Pride and Prejudice is one of the most cherished love stories in English literature, delighting generations of readers with its high comedy, social observation and compelling romance, and spawning an entire industry of spin-off books, film adaptations and works of literary criticism。 The pride of high-ranking Mr Darcy and the prejudice of middle-class Elizabeth Bennet conduct an absorbing dance through the rigid social hierarchies of early-nineteenth-century England, with the passion of the two unlikely lovers growing as their union seems ever more improbable。

With a host of Bennet sisters playing out their own triumphs and disasters, and the unforgettable tragicomedy of their parents’ marriage demonstrating just how high the stakes can be, Jane Austen’s second novel has a lasting effect on everyone who reads it。

All-time classics and take me so long to finish。 Together I watched the movie(2005) and the BBC series(1992)。 Both are a good representation of the narrative。 The novel primarily focuses on social class and women's situation through the lens of marriage and social events。 Marriage at the time is the only way for women’s social leverage and affirmation。 I was wondering at a point if regarding it as a game, how good I can play? Thinking about this gave me extra tolerance toward the marriage choice All-time classics and take me so long to finish。 Together I watched the movie(2005) and the BBC series(1992)。 Both are a good representation of the narrative。 The novel primarily focuses on social class and women's situation through the lens of marriage and social events。 Marriage at the time is the only way for women’s social leverage and affirmation。 I was wondering at a point if regarding it as a game, how good I can play? Thinking about this gave me extra tolerance toward the marriage choices despite their undesirable natures。 Love shouldn’t be the only judgment for good and evil。 The novel is certainly not the advocate for romanticism but Austen is somehow generous with her two beloved heroes by giving them both love and bread。 I guess she was letting them realize her unfinished dream and experience the life she couldn’t have the chance to taste。 。。。more

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHThis book is so amazing! It's the perfect enemies to lovers book。 And andandandand annnnnd----- The guy is so adorable。 I LOVE HIMI had to read it for school, and was slightly put off by it。 Like it's old and British and British books can be difficult to read since I'm a 10th grade American。 But it's beautifully written, and absolutely perfect。 AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHThis book is so amazing! In general, the language was pretty hard to comprehend。 If I hadn't seen the movie prior to reading I would have had no idea what was going on half the time, but you get a new appreciation for the movie after reading the book。 Took me a while to get through because of the difficult language。 Not the best book to read if you're looking for an easy read or are just getting started in reading classics。 Maybe I missed a few details but the whole relationship part of the story between Lizzy and Darcy In general, the language was pretty hard to comprehend。 If I hadn't seen the movie prior to reading I would have had no idea what was going on half the time, but you get a new appreciation for the movie after reading the book。 Took me a while to get through because of the difficult language。 Not the best book to read if you're looking for an easy read or are just getting started in reading classics。 Maybe I missed a few details but the whole relationship part of the story between Lizzy and Darcy happened in like the last 75-ish pages so a lot of the book seemed just like filler。 。。。more

I surprisingly enjoyed this book, despite not being the biggest fan of period dramas。 Although, I still think it's a bit overhyped。 Despite not liking most of Jane Austin's writing (I found Emma and Persuasion incredibly boring and forgettable), I loved Pride And Prejudice。I found the characters enjoyable (except Mr。 Collins, I hate him)。 My only complaint regarding the characters is that some Bennet sister are completely useless。 Catherine (Kitty) is just a more boring version of Lydia, who nev I surprisingly enjoyed this book, despite not being the biggest fan of period dramas。 Although, I still think it's a bit overhyped。 Despite not liking most of Jane Austin's writing (I found Emma and Persuasion incredibly boring and forgettable), I loved Pride And Prejudice。I found the characters enjoyable (except Mr。 Collins, I hate him)。 My only complaint regarding the characters is that some Bennet sister are completely useless。 Catherine (Kitty) is just a more boring version of Lydia, who never does anything interesting in the entire book。 Mary is also incredibly boring and forgettable。 I didn't even know there were 5 Bennet sisters until she gets mentioned in one of the last chapters, since Mary is so unimportant to the overall plot。 I found myself so heavily invested in Lizzy and Darcy's romance that I finished the whole book in 2 days。 Usually, I don't enjoy "slow burn" romance, but I was truly excited for them to get together since they had such good chemistry。 I can truly believe that they were madly in love with one another, which is something I cannot say about most romance stories。I recommend following along with an audiobook while reading this book, since the language can at times be complicated and hard to understand (that's what I did)。 :) 。。。more

O começo foi bem paradinho mas dps de mais ou menos na metade as coisas fluíram。Eu gostei bastante da história embora eu não tenha sentido muito foco no darcy, tanto é que ele não apareceu tanto no livro quanto eu gostaria。

I have to assume most people are very familiar with the story of Pride and Prejudice since it has been a very popular classic novel for two hundred years not to mention the basis for a couple of very popular movies。 The book follows 5 sisters who are hoping to find love and stability in a time where women were somewhat dependent on men to provide that。 Although we follow all 5 sisters this is really the story of Elizabeth Bennet the strong, intelligent and favorite daughter of Mr。 Bennet。 Elizab I have to assume most people are very familiar with the story of Pride and Prejudice since it has been a very popular classic novel for two hundred years not to mention the basis for a couple of very popular movies。 The book follows 5 sisters who are hoping to find love and stability in a time where women were somewhat dependent on men to provide that。 Although we follow all 5 sisters this is really the story of Elizabeth Bennet the strong, intelligent and favorite daughter of Mr。 Bennet。 Elizabeth is trying to carve out her own happy life as well as protect her less worldly capable sisters。The language and customs were obviously very different which I found to be a plus with the novel taking me to that world。The main story follows the love hate courtship of Elizabeth and the mysterious Darcy。 We learn that things are not always as they appear but the best part of the novel is that we learn about Pride and Prejudice。 The pride and prejudice cuts both ways with everyone having some preconceived opinions on others based on their financial situation。I really enjoyed the book although not as much as I enjoyed the Keira Knightly movie version。 。。。more

This book was basically just a fiction study of 19th century England, it’s marriages and society。 Honestly, this book was not for me at the start and I seriously considered DNFing it but, alas, I decided to wait it out。 Was it worth it? Meh。 Yes and no。 Nothing extraordinary happens but I did enjoy it more towards the end。 I would reread this but I don’t think anytime soon。 Maybe classics just aren’t for me。

I do not know what I can say in praise of this book that hasn’t already been uttered a thousand times before – and every pretty word, every hail of praise most deserved。 Pride and Prejudice is absolutely brilliant and nothing short of a masterpiece – and I do not use that word lightly。 It is so full of drama, on-point observations of human nature so eloquently and beautifully worded, hilarious social commentary with subtle (and not-so-subtle) sarcasm to go, likeable and un-likeable characters of I do not know what I can say in praise of this book that hasn’t already been uttered a thousand times before – and every pretty word, every hail of praise most deserved。 Pride and Prejudice is absolutely brilliant and nothing short of a masterpiece – and I do not use that word lightly。 It is so full of drama, on-point observations of human nature so eloquently and beautifully worded, hilarious social commentary with subtle (and not-so-subtle) sarcasm to go, likeable and un-likeable characters of equal amounts, positive character growth and development, plot twists you did not see coming yet makes sense and improves the story, mocking of the regency era polite society in all its silly propriety and decorum, and a protagonist that is, with all her strengths and flaws, nothing short of a queen – metaphorically, that is。There are but some minor critique。 Aside from the first brilliant chapter, the story is slow to kick off。 Some sentences are unnecessarily convoluted and there is a want of positive character development for most side-characters。 Not that all characters need positive development, or any development。 Indeed, we all do love to poke fun at characters such as the frivolous loon that is Mrs。 Bennet, but it would’ve been nice to see some positive development, or at the very least some level of insight, for Bingley, Jane, or even Lydia。 。。。more

There’s not much I can say about Pride and Prejudice that hasn’t already been said a hundred thousand times over by people a lot smarter and more articulate than me, but what I will say is that I love this book with all my heart, and I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of reading about Darcy and Elizabeth growing and shaping themselves into better people because they want to be worthy of each other。 Not really a classics fan but the characters, the pining, the drama。。。 all of it makes this book so There’s not much I can say about Pride and Prejudice that hasn’t already been said a hundred thousand times over by people a lot smarter and more articulate than me, but what I will say is that I love this book with all my heart, and I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of reading about Darcy and Elizabeth growing and shaping themselves into better people because they want to be worthy of each other。 Not really a classics fan but the characters, the pining, the drama。。。 all of it makes this book so delicious and addictive, and you’re really missing out if you haven’t picked up this classic yet! 。。。more

The book is a romantic classic。 Jane Austen's writing is spectacular though it does contain quite a bit of old English。 I enjoyed the book and have read it twice now。 Both times it has been slow and personally, hard to read。 The book is a romantic classic。 Jane Austen's writing is spectacular though it does contain quite a bit of old English。 I enjoyed the book and have read it twice now。 Both times it has been slow and personally, hard to read。 。。。more

This is a novel that gave no question as to its fame, which is based entirely on its merit。 A classic that lived up to its name。 For those who don't write in their books, I apologize, but this book had me underlining every other line, and rejoicing in so clever a character as Elizabeth being the one I got to read about。 This is a novel that gave no question as to its fame, which is based entirely on its merit。 A classic that lived up to its name。 For those who don't write in their books, I apologize, but this book had me underlining every other line, and rejoicing in so clever a character as Elizabeth being the one I got to read about。 。。。more

Much more than just a simple enemy-to-lovers story。 Austen highlights the ingrained misogyny of the 18th century and even though we have come a long way from seeing marriage as a woman’s only purpose, I believe there is a reflection of the patriarchal society shown to us in Pride and Prejudice that is also present today。 As well as being hilarious, one of my favourite books of all time。
